posted (January 18, 2019)

Earlier in the week, we told you about the fire in Ladyville which left Levi Bahadur and his family homeless. The victims suspected that this was a case of arson, and today, police confirmed that they’ve charged 1 man for intentionally setting the blaze.

It happened just before midnight on last Friday, when Bahadur and his family members were at home. They suddenly saw the house, valued at around $30,000, ablaze after a man came looking for his ex-girlfriend who used to live there. Before they could do anything, the fire quickly spread, and destroyed the wooden structure completely.

Police told the media today, that they’ve charged 31 year-old Tyrone Fitzgibbon, with 2 counts of arson:

ASP Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City

“Do you have a motive. The people at the address said that he was upset when he came out of prison and found that his ex-girlfriend was no longer at the address.â€￾

ASP Alejandro Cowo
“Yes, we have a motive, and it has to do with the female that was being sought on that night along with the person that was charged for the arson.â€￾

Fitzgibbon was arraigned today before Magistrate Aretha Ford on 2 counts of arson. No plea was taken, and due to the objections from the police prosecutor, Fitzgibbon was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until March 19th.

One of the residents told police that he rescued a man from the fire.
