Road Rage Ryan
posted (January 24, 2019)

If you’re a driver, cyclist or pedestrian - no matter how cool and calm you may be - we know at some point, you’ve probably felt the urge to explode on an aggressive or inconsiderate driver.  Well, one man acted on it today - and he’ll have to pay dearly for his road rage outburst.

This morning during the regular 8:00 o’clock rush on the Northern Highway, construction worker Ryan Nolberto got off his bike and stoned a Russell Bus, smashing the windshield.

Bus driver Lionel Russel told police he stopped at Belize Flour Mill at mile 2 on Phillip Goldson Highway to drop off some passengers - and he saw Nolberto brandishing a stone - which he then hurled at the windshield.

Today in Court, before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford, Nolberto pleaded guilty to damage to property.  Outside the court, Ryan the Road Rager had no apologies:

Ryan Nolberto - Stoned the Bus and is Not Sorry
"To be quite frank you, I stoned the bus intentionally because I'm an individual who constantly uses the road and I observed that these drivers have no respect for pedestrians and motorists on the road; cyclists even. I'm an individual who is tired of going through this; they put their life at risk, the passengers’ life at risk and my life at risk when they overtake within city limits."

Reporter
"Did the bus come near you made you fear for your life?"

Ryan Nolberto
"Most naturally the bus almost hit me and this is an everyday thing that I go through residing here in Belize and I'm just quite tired of it, that's all I can say."

As we said. He’ll pay dearly for it. The magistrate fined him $1,000 dollars and gave him until April 30 to pay. If he defaults on payment he will serve 10 months.

And while the bus windshield has a declared value of $900 dollars, Senior Magistrate Ford did not order Nolberto to pay compensation because Russel did not submit a receipt to the court for the cost of the windshield.

Of course, when it comes to busses - we know just what he’s talking about. Here on the news we’ve covered multiple stories where busses have been caught on camera racing, and jostling with each other in the city and on the highway - endangering dozens of lives.
