Guatemalan Charged For Escape

A man who escaped from prison and was recaptured has been charged. He is 29 year old David Medina, a Guatemalan. He escaped from the Belize Central Prison on July 23, 2018. Today, he pleaded guilty to escape before Magistrate Emerson Banner. He was fined $500 and he was given until February 28 to pay.

Median was captured on the same day he escaped in the bushes around the prison.

Medina was serving time for four fisheries offences and an immigration offence of illegal entry. The fisheries offences were engaging in commercial fishing while not being the holder of a valid fisherman's license, use of a vessel in commercial fishing while not being the holder of a valid fisherman's license, facilitating a person to engage in commercial fishing while not being the holder of a valid fisherman's license and use of gill net within Port Honduras Marine Reserve.
