Bainton Gets Break At Court
posted (January 29, 2019)
54-year-old Ladyville resident Robert Bainton appeared in court to be tried for theft today. Bainton was arrested by police last January after he was accused of stealing a roll of chain link wire from the veranda of Krisner Reneau. According to reports, Reneau heard his dogs barking, looked outside and saw Bainton grabbing the wire from the veranda. Reneau chased Bainton in his car but lost him when the alleged robber ran into the bushes. The police showed up not long after, and Reneau directed them to the area where Bainton fled. After a short search, the cops found Bainton hiding under some bushes with the wire next to him. They then apprehended him and charged him with burglary.

When he testified in court today, Bainton gave a different story. He claims that he was on his way home from the club and stopped at Sky Supermarket when police stopped and searched him. According to Bainton he was then to a back street where the cops accused him of stealing the wire roll and apprehended him. Bainton told the Magistrate Emerson Banner that no proper investigation was conducted and therefore he was unjustly accused. Banner took Bainton's testimony into account and mentioned that Bainton should have been charged with theft since he was technically not accused of breaking into Reneau's home. Banner proceeded to find Bainton guilty of handling stolen goods. He was fined $1000 and was given until February 28th to pay or spend 1 year in jail.
