Lab Techs Talk
posted (January 31, 2019)

We hear about doctors conferences and medical forums. Well, other medical professionals like lab technicians also need continuous training. Today at the Biltmore, the Ministry of Health hosted a training for lab technicians countrywide. We dropped by to find out more about the training.

Geraldine Morazan - Director of Laboratory
"Today we are doing a training session for the laboratory supervisors in the district level. We are discussing about agro-virus infection, Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika and case investigation, how to fill out forms, how to properly handle and send out and ship the samples to central lab and doing the testing as well at the district level. So there is that diligence on how to receive the samples and if they are receiving the samples and that it comes along with the agro-virus form and that they have all the demographic of the person, the age, the onset of fever and all the clinical information that we need to guide more or less on what type of testing we will do."

Lorna Perez - Surveillance Officer, Epidemiology Unit
"Well apart from it being an ongoing sensitization for lab technicians, keeping them up to date with new technologies that are out there, try to identify pathogens that are causing illnesses. It is also an opportunity for them to be aware of the decisions that are being made by the Ministry of Health as regards to screening for many diseases in the country."

It was a one day session.
