Map Flap With Referendum Unit
posted (February 1, 2019)
And while the PUP has to find money to get out is voters on referendum day - the Government has to find someone who can draw a map! We've been using the Belize Referendum Commission website quite a bit lately. That;S the official site that Foreign Affairs has set up to educate the public on the ICJ - and it's located at belizereferendum.gov.bz.

But on this official site there is a map of Belize that's so pitiful - if it weren't so embarrassing - it would be laughable. Starting in he north, the map spells Corozal as "Corozul", while "Pachacan" is spelled with a "c", not a "k". Going south, Progresso, ends with an "e", not an "o", and Maskall has an extra "s" at the end.

Further south, Placentia is spelled as "Placentis", and Barranco gets a French spin, "Barrance". Going to the west, the obscure and uninhabited "Millionario" Camp in the Chiquibul, is randomly included on the map, but it becomes "Millionarie", and Benque, becomes "Banque".

Now, again, all this is on the home page of the official website of the referendum unit - and the site has been up for a while. We'll wait and see how long they take to change it.
