Huge Contraband Bust In San Victor
posted (February 4, 2019)
On Saturday, a joint police law enforcement team made a huge contraband bust in San Victor Village in the Corozal district. This village is widely known as one of the epicentres for contraband smuggling.

The cops found an abandoned house in which outlaws in the area were stashing 238 cases of beer, 10 cases of Cana Real rum, and 11 cases of those large coca-colas.

The cops told us today that since no one was found near the illegal goods, they handed it over as found property to the Customs Department:

ACP Joseph Myvette- Head of NCIB
"A joint Orange Walk-Corozal police operation on Saturday morning, in the area of San Victor Village, in the Corozal District, resulted in the seizure of some 238 cases of beer, 11 cases of soft drink and 10 cases of rum that were found in an abandoned building. No one was found in the area, so those items were retrieved and handed over to the customs department at the Northern Border."

Daniel Ortiz- Reporter
"Is it believed that these items were intended for some function or was it for a black-market type sale?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"At this point in time we are not able to say."

Reporter
"Sir, was the searched based on a tip or were you conducting an overall search?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"No, the police department is conducting strategic operations across the north and other parts of the country. There has been a constant interdiction of these type of activities. I believe that almost on a weekly basis there are some seizures, and these are usually handed over to customs."

Customs has valued the beers at 28,560 dollars, the 10 cases of Cana Real strong rum at 2,640 dollars, and the sodas at 825 dollars - all for a total value of 32 thosuand dollars. Since no one was found nearby, no one can be fined and the beverages will be destroyed. It is all believed to be the property of a major smuggler in the area.
