Hit and Run Victim Identified
posted (February 5, 2019)
Tonight, a family in Xaibe Village is mourning after learning that their loved one was killed in a hit and run at 1:00 am on Monday morning. It happened near the entrance of San Joaquin Village.

The body was unidentified up until last night - but after seeing the news, the family went to the police station - and identified the deceased as 61 year old Carlos Galvan - a Mexican by birth who has lived in Belize his whole life.

Today his son told CTV-3 he's not quite sure what his father was doing riding on the road at that hour:...

JORGE RODRIGUEZ, SON OF DECEASED
"I got to know it because my mother called - she got to know because of the news - it said the victim wore a black pants and my dad had a black pants, and I got to know it was him he also had a black bike."

"When did your father leave home?"

JORGE RODRIGUEZ, SON OF DECEASED
"Sunday, Sunday in the morning. It's normal that he would leave for work and come back at night. He plants crops, he was a cultivator. That's his work. It was very suspicious that he hadn't reached home for the entire night. And only like that I got to know that it was him, that they knocked him down."

"The only thing we can do hold the pain like a son, anyone would feel the pain of losing their father. I am accustomed to him, we are always together. We come from work together. Now that he's not around, I don't know how I will cope."

"The only thing I am asking for is justice, for justice to be done because they told me about a vehicle stained with blood right there at the cutoff, I am not sure if it's him who did it."

"I hope he gives up himself and goes and gives a report. it's not an animal that he knocked down."

Anyone with information on who may have knocked down Galvan is asked to call the police.
