Harmony and The Land of The Rising Sun
posted (February 6, 2019)
The village of Bermudian Landing is receiving a donation of 108 thousand US dollars from the Japanese Government for the construction of a school building for the Harmony Preschool.

The donation comes under the Japanese Government's Grassroots Human Security project, and it will allow for children living in the Belize River Valley area to start their early childhood education at the only institution of its kind in the river valley.

Currently, the preschool is occupying the village community center, but the hope is that within the next few months, they will have their own facility. The donation was noted with an official ceremony yesterday, and here's what the Japanese Embassy's Japan's Chargé D'affaires had to say to the gathering:

H. E. Hiroyuki Kubota - Japanese Ambassador to Belize
"On behalf of the Japanese Government, it is my honor to be here for the grant contract between the Embassy of Japan in Belize, and Harmony Pre-School for the project of construction of buildings for Harmoney Pre-School."

"This project is worth $108,350 US, equivalent to 216,706 Belize dollars. It is being funded through the Government of Japan's Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security project scheme. This scheme was introduced in Belize in 1996. Since then, around 15 projects have been funded. To date, the accumulated the grant contract is at 5.3 million Belize dollars. Then today, our new project adds on to the long list. This an investment for the next generation, for both nations."

Paulette Martinez - Principal
"Since its inception in 2001, the founder, Mrs. Young, manager teachers and parents have worked at obtaining the financial resources that would allow Harmony Pre-School to own its own building."

"Well, today, we're here welcoming you in witnessing the signing of a grant being offered by the Japanese Embassy."

Marvin Kellyman - General Manager, Government Schools
"This is a realization and a dream of the community, and the people of Japan."

The execution of this project is expected to be executed in less than 12 months.
