Now Belize has benefited significantly from many CDB funded infrastructure projects, and one that Belizeans are especially looking forward to is the upgrading of the Coastal Road. The project will transform the dreadful dirt road into a proper highway. The Director of projects at CDB, Daniel Best told Courtney more about the project and all the fancy features the new Coastal Highway will have.

"The project was approved by our board of directors. We are quite excited for that. The feasibility study is completed, the designs have been completed as well and so road works would start at the end of 2019. This is the projections for the actual road works to begin. What's important about that project as I mentioned previously, the designs have incorporated climate vulnerability assessments. The elevation of the road need to be raised to avoid storm surge and the like. So we are very pleased about how the feasibility study went. we are very pleased that a full climate screening was done and the fact that the designs have incorporated this. Now moving towards capital works we are confident that its climate resilient and environmental friendly will be constructed."
Works are expected to begin later this year. The cost of this project is US 36.6 million dollars.
