15 Years For Killing 60 Year Old
posted (February 8, 2019)

2 months ago, we told you about 20 year-old Roberto Rodriguez and 25 year-old Clive Geban. They were charged with murder for the 2013 killing of 61 year old Ervin Morales in Maskall Village.  In December of last year, they pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Well today, Justice Colin Williams handed down their sentence. He has decided that they should spend 15 years in jail for the the crime.

Justice Williams noted that both men showed remorse by asking his family for forgiveness, and by covering Morales’s body with a blanket - after they had left him with 19 wounds.

He noted that Rodriguez was only 14 years-old, and that Geban was only 19 years-old at the time of the killing.

So, after considering all factors, the judge determined that they should be sentenced to 15 years. Time served on remand while awaiting trial was deducted, and also the judge made other deductions for both accused men based on their separate roads to rehabilitation. So, at this time, Geban will spend 4 more years behind bars, while Rodriguez will spend 2 and a half more years in jail.

As we reported, On January 19th, 2013, both Geban and Rodriguez went to Morales' house to rob him. When they didn't find him there, they waited for him by hiding under his bed. When he arrived, they attacked him with a machete and a knife. The senior citizen suffered from epilepsy, and so when he didn't show up for his midday meal the following day, his relatives and friends went looking for him. He was found dead inside, his body wrapped in a blanket.
