Another Night of Mayhem in Mayflower
posted (February 11, 2019)
Police had another shootout with residents of Mayflower Street last night. The cops say it happened after a burglary at a nearby supermarket:..

ASP Alejandro Cowo- OC CIB
"Just after 10 pm the building of William's Supermarket was being burglarized and police responded to the scene and upon reaching they observed several persons coming out of the building with several items. As a result, police went to apprehend them and that is where the exchange of gunfire began between the suspects and the police, which escalated in other shootings happening in the other immediate area. After the scene was processed, police were looking for this person suspected to be involved."

Jules Vasquez- Reporter
"Has that person been detained?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"There were several persons that were detained last night."

Jules Vasquez
"Now, you all have a fixed checkpoint on both ends of that location: one at the Banack Street Junction and the other at May Flower Junction. Explain to me how it is that such lawlessness was able to transpire in such a heavily policed area?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Well, we know yes that there are police booths in those two vicinities. However, one way or the other they managed to break into the back of the building and get access to the building."

Jules Vasquez
"Are you able to say how they breached the building? Did they go through a door or did they go through the wall?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"It was through a window to the back of the building where police found several items that they utilized to gain access to the building."

Jules Vasquez
"Is it a concern for you that May Flower area continues to be an area that does not have much respect for law enforcement?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"It is and not only the May Flower area, there are other areas. However, the police took a strong stand last night and we commend those police officers who were there and who responded in a timely manner and controlled the situation before it got out of hand."

Residents reported last night that police were shooting at them - which we know has happened before as well. One manw as reported to be hurt, but in the end, he did not a have a gunshot injury.
