Senator Courtney Calls On Gov’t To Stop Using Him In Pro-ICJ Ads
posted (February 12, 2019)
The "Vote Yes to the ICJ" campaign is ramping up as the referendum date draws near. And, their most recent set of ads has featured former PUP foreign Minister Eamon Courtney - back when he was pro-ICJ. Courtenay, as has been well publicized, is now staunchly opposed to going to the ICJ under the present configuration - and has - along with other PUP leaders - proposed what they call "a deep freeze" - which is to suspend Belize - Guatemala negotiations for 25 years.

So, he's not with the current yes vote campaign but the ads, using his remarks from some years ago have him speaking in favour of the ICJ.

Today, the often combative Courtenay - who is not known to let things slide - issued a statement saying, quote, "As part of their propaganda they have taken my words out of context. I am not a part of their campaign nor have I authorised them to use my words or image. I call on the UDP Government to immediately withdraw this completely misleading advertisement and to desist from using me in their failing campaign."
