A Long Road From PG
posted (February 12, 2019)
For the average person, riding 70 miles is darn near impossible, especially if you are not trained for it.

But, ready or not, on Saturday officials from the Ministry of the National Security, members of the BDF, Coast Guard and police took to the road on their bicycles for the 2nd annual ride to the border. Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard, Elton Bennett told us more about the ride.

Cpt. Elton Bennett, Vice Commandant, Belize Coast Guard
"Over the weekend we had a national security ride to the border. It is an initiative by the Ministry of National Security where the security forces, Belize Police Department, BDF, the coast guard spearheaded the activity and we say spear headed because we really want for other personnel outside the ministry to really get involved so it is open for the general public. The intent was to do a terrain tour by bike from PG to the Jalacte border and back, 70 miles a real interesting terrain and we visited the treetop operating base that belongs to the BDF, we received an operational brief so it's both enjoying the natural environment of our southern borders but also receiving that operation brief which was very important."

There were 31 participants. In a release it says "The ride to the border is also taken as an opportunity to build camaraderie and team spirit amongst members of the Belize Defence Force, Belize Coast Guard (BCG), and the Police Department and to promote friendly interaction with the communities in that area."
