Wesley Lower Robbed Again
posted (February 14, 2019)
The staff at Wesley Lower School on Albert Street in Belize City have reached their wit's end with burglars who keep breaking into the school and stealing essential educational items.

Last night, someone pried open the burglar bar door of the principal's office, and cleaned it out of everything valuable that they could find.

Today, one of the teachers told us off-camera that these thieves are affecting the students' education:

Voice of: Pamela Baird - Teacher, Wesley Lower School
"Last night, the office was broken into again. It was ransacked, as you can see, so we are very very frustrated right now at Wesley Lower School. Its a lot of work that we will have to go back and do to fix up this office. We cannot ascertain at this moment what all has been missing. The police were called; they came. Scenes of Crime were here, so we're just waiting for the results of that. And then, we'll be able to go in and inspect the building thoroughly to see exactly what was stolen."

"This is like, besides 5 classrooms being broken into, now the office has been targeted twice. So, we're at our peak in terms of frustration. We don't know what to do, and who else to turn to."

"We had somebody come in, and properly secure the office, but as you can see, if you look at the burglar bar door, the padlock was not broken because we bought new, and very very expensive padlocks to put on the burglar bar. But, it was pried open from the top. So, the thief, or thieves came very very prepared with their tools, and everything for the job that they wanted to do."

"I'd just like to ask the thief or the thieves to kindly stop. I mean this is a school. We don't make money here. We have to be fundraising to make money to maintain the school for each term. So, it's very very difficult when they do something like this. It's very very frustrating on the teachers, on the principal. It spoils your entire day when you come here."

The school is now in a bind to try and replace all the stolen items.
