Mason Murder Trial in March
posted (February 15, 2019)

In less than a month, Danny Mason will stand trial for the July 2016 murder of Pastor Llewellyn Lucas. That was the big news coming out of the Belmopan Supreme Court. Danny Mason and his 4 accomplices Terrence Fernandez, Ashton Vanegas, Keiron Fernandez and Ernest Castillo were taken before Justice Antoinette Moore.

She addressed several elements in the murder trial case and the other pending case against the accused for the kidnapping of a mennonite couple. They all pled not guilty to three counts on that charge. Attorney Herbert Panton discussed what happened in this case management session:

Herbert Panton - Attorney
"There were two things on the table there was the further case management for the murder charge. That was just to make sure that our ducks were in a row and we are prepared for trial so that went off uneventful and we are set for trial on the 12th of March."

Courtney Weatherburne
"I understand there was an additional update on the kidnapping charge?"

Herbert Panton
"There was an additional count that was levied against the 3 accused, I don’t have my indictment here, I can’t recall the charge but it stems from the same facts emanating from the same events so it is well within the DPP’s power to add that additional count. And the second matter that happened today was the arraignment on the part of the accused in regard to the kidnapping charge so that plea was just taken this morning, we don’t anticipate that that will get to trial anytime soon so certainly the queue is full as far as this session of the supreme court is concerned so we are looking for the April session or later in the year for that."

Danny Mason’s trial for murder will begin on March 12th.

The DPP herself Cheryl Lynn Vidal is expected to lead the prosecution, and she told the court she expects the trial to last about about three weeks.
