In yesterday’s newscast, we told you about the roundtable session that the Football Federation of Belize held with the media to discuss how they can improve relations in an effort to better inform and engaged the wider public on all important goings-on within the sport of football.
President Sergio Chuc and his administration want the general public to regain confidence in the work that the FFB is doing to improve sport in Belize. And more importantly than that, they want to see the state of football in Belize start inching closer the levels of dominant football nations of the world.
They’re doing this by focusing on developing football at the grassroots level, as well as engaging the female population in a brand new women’s league.
We got a chance to speak with 2 representatives from the FFB about the Federations plans for these two sections of the local football community, and here’s what they told us:
"2 weeks ago we actually kick start the national amateur women's league with 12 teams participating from throughout the country of Belize. We actually have a team from San Pedro participating this year. So this year we took on a new approach when it comes to the national amateurs women's league and it's that we're trying to use football as a platform for advocacy. So are trying to push football for it to be known that it's more than just a game and we are using it to promote social issues that women are facing. To do this we actually are partnering with the Cancer Society, with the YWCA and with Ms. Kim Simplis Barrow from the Special Envoy and we are using these platforms to again address issues that women are facing. We wanted to be known that it's more than just football, it's more than just a sport. Yes women can actually play the sport just as good as men, so we are promoting, we are pushing women's football a lot in the federation but we also wanted to be known that it's not just about playing the sport. Yes playing the sport is about being healthy, it's about being involved in the community but it's also about using it to address issues women face."
"A club that I have that I am a member of, adventures football club. We have partnered with the football federation of Belize to bring the Fundacion Real Madrid, that is the arm of powerful club Real Madrid. They will be visiting us August, so we want to give the youths of Belize the opportunity just that any other youth in the world to have the same type of training that they have in Europe, in the USA, in South America, Central America"

"They go about all over the world doing their training the Real Madrid philosophy and that is what we want to bring to Belize through this partnership. We want to expose our players to the best training that they have and I think that this club can assist us in that to our players."
This new administration has committed to be more transparent and open with the public than their immediate predecessors.
