Man Killed On Way To Pick Up Girlfriend

Tonight, the Lord family from Lords Bank Village is mourning the killing of their loved-one who died after he was shot in Belize City just before midnight last night.

He's Roy Gilbert Lord, a 31 year-old father of 2, and at around 11:35 p.m. last night, he left his girlfriend's home on New Road to pick her up from Tropicana Casino, where she works. He was on foot, and when he arrived on Wilson Street, he was approached a gunman rolled up on him and opened fire, hitting the 31 year old multiple times in the head, chest and back. Police were the first to respond and rushed him to the KHMH, but he succumbed to his injuries a short while after.

His family is devastated, and they tell us that they can't think of any reason why someone would want to kill him. This evening, his aunt spoke with us off-camera. She told us that at this time, his loved-ones suspect that the shooter mistook him for someone else:

"We're told that he was on the way to pick up his girlfriend."

Voice of: Aunt of the Deceased
"Yes, that's all we know. He was on the way to pick up his girlfriend, that's all, nothing else."

Reporter
"When did you all receive information that he had been shot?"

Voice of: Aunt of Deceased
"We got the information about a little bit after twelve last night."

Reporter
"How are you all coping at this time? We know his loss is fresh. It's been only a few hours ago."

Voice of: Aunt of Deceased
"It hard mein. It's very very hard because 'Blackas' - that's his nickname. He was not trouble person. So, for us it's been very very hard."

Reporter
"Do you all think he had any enemies, any persons who had any kinds of disputes with him, in the past? Anything like that?"

Voice of: Aunt of Deceased
"No sir, not that I know of."

Reporter
"Did he at any point associate with any kind of friends that you all didn't approve of?"

Voice of: Aunt of Deceased
"No, sir, not that I know of."

Reporter
"So, what do you all think happened? Do you all think that somebody mistook him for someone else?"

Voice of: Aunt of Deceased
"Well, that's what we are thinking right now, and haven't found his phone. We haven't found his wallet, and nothing we haven't found on him. So, we don't know what to say."

Reporter
"Was he well known in Lords Bank and Ladyville, ma'am?"

Voice of: Aunt of Deceased
"Yes, sir, well-known."

Reporter
"Describe his personality."

Voice of: Aunt of Deceased
"Sweet. My nephew didn't give any trouble. Loving, caring, he's always there for us, no matter what."

Lord leaves behind 2 sons: a 9 year-old and a 3 year-old.
