Faber Urges Public To Desist From Spreading Vids Violating Privacy and Children’s Rights

The media also pressed these two Ministers on another matter of child abuse - and that's cyber-bullying. The issue has come to the fore after a video of a Belize City high school student performing oral sex in her school uniform was circulated this weekend.

It's what's called revenge porn and it has wreaked havoc on the young lady's life. Her family has decided to take her out of school for the time being - to spare her having to deal with the aftermath of that kind of unwarranted exposure.

Today the Education Minister made a public plea to stop this type of shaming:

Hon. Patrick Faber - Minister of Education
"My personal position is that indeed, she may need to take some time out of school. I don't necessarily agree with that it should be called a suspension, and it should be - but when that happens, I'm sure there is some psychological effect on the child. So, she does need to withdraw and maybe get some support from family members and from probably a counsellor that can walk her through the very difficult time."

"I really think that those who are engaged in this kind of business of exchanging nudes and embarrassing people, it's mean spirited. It's not something that I would condone, and certainly, I don't condone it when it comes our children in school. And that is just something that we want to ask people not to do altogether."
