How Much Is The Hawke Worth?
posted (February 21, 2019)
The last time that Nigel Hawke made the news was last year December, when Prime Minister Dean Barrow confirmed that his contract as Solicitor General was not going to be renewed. With that tenure finished, Hawke returned to his home country of Guyana. Tonight, news coming out of Guyana says that he resigned as Solicitor General of that country after a very short stint.

The Stabroek Newspaper out of Guyana reports that 2 days ago, he resigned with immediate effect. That's after his boss, Basil Williams, the Guyanese Attorney General, allegedly took a tongue lashing from the Guyanese Court of Appeal for what was described as glaring errors in documents submitted to the court.

The newspaper reports that shortly after Hawke returned from court on Tuesday, he was locked in a closed-door meeting with Attorney General Williams for about 15 minutes. The paper says he then left the building with his belongings.

We note that other media reports in Guyana dispute this and say that it is fake news.

This evening, we contacted Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte, who was his boss up until last December. He told us that the last he heard of Hawke was that an attorney from a Belizean law firm was expressing interest in hiring Hawke as a private attorney. AG Peyrefitte said that he recommended Hawke to the Belizean attorney, and he was under the impression that Hawke was now in private practice. He added that he was surprised to hear that Hawke had returned to Guyana.
