Lionfish Yum
posted (February 22, 2019)

Yesterday we told you about the first ever lionfish management strategy. We also showed you what the Belioness jewelers group is doing to control the lionfish population. Well, of course, you can also eat Lionfish to get rid of some of them. We spoke to a Chef yesterday at the event who prepared lionfish panades and patties for the guests. They sure were tasty.

Chef
"We have a case at the BTL park and every Friday I do lionfish tacos right and it's been very good, the feedback I get is very awesome. People say it's a poisonous fish, not it's not. It is but if you clean it the right way it is very nice, it's eats a lot of lobster and eats all the groupers and all of that stuff right, so you're getting all the flavors in one fish. You could as you see the panades, you see tacos, just take it and treat it as a normal fish. The fillet is excellent even the whole lionfish is even better, it has very unique nice clean flavoring. The girls will go like I don't want fish because I have to back to work, I will smell like fish, no. It doesn't have that fishy smell, people they love it and when they have it they come back for more."

Courtney Weatherburne
"In terms of the preparations, it's really just like the fish, there's not special...?"

Chef
"No, once it's been fillet, the venom has come out and stays in the spine right and the spine is cured and it's made into jewelry, beautiful jewelry."

Lionfish Warrior has his spot at the BTL park and makes lionfish tacos every Friday.
