City Man Shot Up In Independence
posted (February 25, 2019)
A Belize City man is in very critical condition tonight after he was was shot multiple times this weekend. On Sunday morning at 5:00 am, Edward Conorquie turned up at the Independence Clinic with what appeared to be three gunshot wounds to the head. A taxi-man found the 22 year old thrown on the side of the road a short time before that. Police believe that someone shot him multiple times on Saturday night and then threw him on the road - left for dead. But, somehow he survived and is at the KHMH tonight, clinging to life. The head of National Crimes Investigation told us more:

ACP Joseph Myvette- Head of NCIB
"Yesterday morning, sometime after 5 am, Independence police were called to the Independence poly clinic where they observed a male person with head and body injuries. He was immediately transported to the Southern Regional Hospital and later to the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital where his name was learnt to be Edward Conorquie, 22 years of Vernon Street Address in Belize City. Initial investigations revealed that Conorquie was at a function in Independence Village and sometime between 4 and 5 am, he was picked up by civilians just outside of Independence Village and taken to the poly clinic with these injuries."

Jules Vasquez- Reporter
"He was at an event on Saturday night and the next time he was seen it was Sunday morning?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yes."

Jules Vasquez
"And he is known to police?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yes, he is."

Jules Vasquez
"Do you all know what his business was or what he was doing in Independence?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"No, we don't."

Jules Vasquez
"Okay. I ask because people in Independence are very concerned about the migration of criminal elements from Belize City. Might he be one of those persons who, because of the police pressure, ended up in Independence?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Well, we do not know that at this point in time other than to say that several persons from Belize City have been arrested for several crimes in that area."

Jules Vasquez
"I'm told he was shot three times to the head. It's extraordinary that he survived a night like that, assuming he passed the night out in the bushes like that. What are you able to say about his condition?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"He is still in a very critical condition at this point in time"

As Myvett mentioned, Independence is becoming a hub for criminal elements running form the heavy police presence in the city.
