Councillor Micah’s Response To Being Stripped of Portfolios
posted (February 25, 2019)
On Friday, the entire City Council came out unified - basically to throw their fellow councillor Micah Goodin under the City Hall bus. Goodin was stripped of his portfolios by the mayor for a testy exchange with the City Administrator.

Well, Goodin responded yesterday with an emotional Facebook post.

It says, quote,
"A black barefoot boy from Majestic Alley was to never rise up and fight for the poor and marginalized people of Belize City.
The bigger heads loved me on the campaign trail because the common people could have identified with my struggle...
But yet they did not want me to sit at the table when all was said and done.
They do not care for the youth. They only use us to win elections...
But I don't need a portfolio to love and serve my people.
A portfolio does not give you heart. It does not teach you how to love people.
Even when I had a portfolio I had to fight every step of the way.
My people remained disrespected and disregarded.
Many of their applications for employment were thrown into the garbage...
Last week I could not take it any longer. I could not hide my frustration. I had to stand up.
We campaigned on putting people first but life has only improved for a few special Belizeans.
Those that have been awarded private contracts and prestigious positions.
The vast majority of Belizeans remain disenfranchised..."

End quote.

After publicly stripping and shaming Goodin for an indefinite period, the Mayor has said that his door remains open to the councillor - who remains on full salary.
