On Friday, Customs and the Coast Guard made another sizeable seizure on the Rio Hondo. They are focusing operations in the area across form Obregon Mexico - which is a contraband hot spot. On Friday, they intercepted two vessels coming across loaded with contraband. The contraband was on two small boats with 15 horsepower engines. When customs showed up - the smugglers scrambled and one of the boats sunk. The other was abandoned and the customs officers recovered 43 sacks of lime, 50 cases big soft drinks, 21 cases assorted beer, 3 sacks Bola Roja flour, three cases of Cana Real rum and one boat and engine 15 horsepower engine. The total value of the goods is three thousand dollars. The Customs and Coast Guard are focussing on this area but widespread smuggling continues at other areas on the Rio Hondo.
