There are 10 Marine Protected Areas in Belize - and increasingly they are being monitored by what are called Spatial Monitoring And Reporting Tools - or "SMART" for short. That can be something as simple as a smart phone - which is used to precisely map activities in those protected areas.
For the next three days, the Wildlife Conservation Society is hosting a regional workshop on the use of these SMART tools. We stopped in today to find out more:
