PG Infant Critical after Electrical Fire

Tonight, an 18-month-old baby clinging to life at the KHMH after she suffered an accident at her Punta Gorda home which caused her to come in contact with fire.

Police say that at around 5:30 p.m. yesterday, 25 year-old Aaronie Gamboa took her 18-month daughter, Vela Usher, to the Punta Gorda Town Community Hospital. She was suffering from severe burn injuries to her body. Gamboa told the authorities that an electrical outlet in a bedroom in the house caused a fire, which spread to a curtain. That burning curtain fell on top of Baby Vela, and she suffered severe burn injuries. She was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital, and later to the KHMH, where she is in a critical condition with burns to 60% of her tiny body.

We're told that the Burn Victim Mercy Fund is on the case, and they are trying to fly her out get the specialized treatment she will need.
