He was probably wrongly imprisoned in the first place, and after one year and one month in jail, San Pedro resident William Godoy is free tonight.
On January 19 of 2018, he was charged for the murder of Alfredo Cowo. And today, the charges were simply withdrawn. According to the San Pedro Sun, the magistrate stated that no substantial evidence was provided to conclude that Godoy was Cowo's murderer.
Godoy told The Sun that he is glad to be free after being incarcerated for over 13 months. He is quoted as saying, "…It is really sad that I was kept in prison all these past months unjustifiably."
At the time of his arrest, there were very serious doubts that police had arrested the right man.
