Today in San Ignacio, BEL welcomed 810 new members to its Golden Citizens program. The program offers 2,665 consumers over the age of 65 with a credit of up to 60 kilowatt hours on their monthly electricity bills.
And Cayo has the second most Golden Citizens, behind Belize City. So, 20 of the program recipients form Cayo were invited to this morning's ceremony where they received special gifts. 7News was there:..

The Golden Citizen Program started in 2012 and persons who are over 65 and have a single account in their names qualify automatically.
