PUP Western Caucus Slams One Of Its Own
posted (February 28, 2019)
And while it was a definite kumbaya moment at the Western border, the PUP Western Caucus isn't one bit happy with Assad Shoman - who - about four decades ago used to be a leading light of that very same caucus.

The Caucus today issued an angry statement - demanding answers about Shoman's NGO - the Citizens for the Defence of Sovereignty - called "CDS." The caucus statement says is quote, "(calling) on the Barrow administration to clarify its relationship with CDS headed by Cuban resident and former Belize Foreign Minister Assad Shoman…. (demanding) full disclosure…of the extent of Government's financial and logistical support made available to Shoman, in the guise of the NGO, to facilitate an orchestrated countrywide UDP political propaganda campaign to influence Belizeans to vote YES in the…ICJ Referendum. … it is well known that he has been provided with a driver, vehicle, gas and other facilities by the Government to make his rounds in the media and travel countrywide to sell the UDP message of a YES vote….The Caucus condemns in the strongest possible terms the Barrow administration's use of mercenaries to further its party political agenda…".

And while he is now being maligned by the Western Caucus as a mercenary, we note that Shoman represented Cayo North for the PUP in 1979, and as George Price's Foreign Minister in the 1970's, is known to have led the internationalization of the Belize cause, clearing the way for Independence, which is the PUP's signal accomplishment.
