The Good Part OF Being A Kid
posted (March 1, 2019)

And of course the best way to keep your kids from getting caught up or sinking into in youtube black hole is putting up the phone and reading to them . Spend more time with your kids! That was the main message from today's Child Stimulation March. Here’s more.

Darlene Lozano - Education Officer, BDEC
"The month of March is designated as child stimulation month; it's where we focus on our children 0 to 8. Studies have shown that's the period for optimal development of our students, academically, physically in the all the areas. So we celebrate the month this year under the theme hug me, listen to me, read with me, help me grow. We want our families, we want our community to guide these children to grow into successful citizens and we can do that by strengthened them academically - reading to them. Strengthen them emotionally - hugging them, building their self-esteem and so forth that they can really be productive citizens. They are our future."

Courtney Weatherburne
"Give us a brief rundown of what happened today. You guys started at Memorial Park and what happened after that?"

Darlene Lozano
"We started an opening ceremony at the Memorial Park, it was a short ceremony, the national prayer and anthem, and the preschoolers did those. We had our keynote address given by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Education Hon. Patrick Faber and we also had a message from our mayor and then we parade through the streets. The students were dressed in different themes, animals, weather and climate, culture. Those are the themes that we teach in pre-school."

Pamela Baird - Parent
"I enjoyed it today; I really enjoyed parading with them from Memorial Park all the way here. As the Minister of Education stated out there at Memorial Park, we don't want to see the parents only with the children at pre-school, we want to see parental support throughout. Primary School, High School, all the way up to tertiary level because it has been shown, it has been proven that the children that have these parental support are the ones that succeed most."

There were about 4,000 kids and parents from the city and Belize rural  who participated in the March. Schools in San Pedro and Caye Caulker held their March simultaneously.
