Back in January, we told you how the Bar Association of Belize intended to help educate Belizeans in time for the National Referendum on the ICJ.  They commissioned an updated legal opinion on the Belize/Guatemala territorial dispute.

Well, that has been finished by international law expert Professor Stephen Vascianne, CD,

A press release from the bar says, quote, â€œThe Opinion examines the Belize/Guatemala territorial dispute with reference to international law principles and, in the same vein, evaluates strengths and possible weaknesses of Belize’s case if the dispute were submitted for determination by the International Court of Justice. 

The Association says that the opinion will be posted on their website on Monday, March 4th.  They will be hosting a public forum to discuss the legal issues raised in the opinion. The Details of the date and venue of the forum will be announced shortly.
