Two Charged For Prostituting/Trafficking A Child
posted (March 5, 2019)
The US State Department Belize currently lists Belize as a "tier 3" country for human trafficking. It's the lowest ranking and fewer than 5 countries in the hemisphere are ranked so low.

Last year's report says that Belize as a country "does not fully meet the Trafficking Victims Protection Act's minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking and is not making significant efforts to do so."

Well, the police department is reporting tonight that they've made a major arrest for a human trafficking case, which they say involved child sexual exploitation.

The cops are vary scarce with the details, but they report that the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Unit conducted an investigation, and yesterday, as a result, they arrested and charged 49 year-old Petrona Inez Montejo, a domestic of Blancaneaux Street in San Ignacio Town for the crimes of procuring a child for sexual exploitation. They've also additionally charged 23 year-old Jeffery Perez, a resident of Santiago Juan Layout in San Ignacio Town with the offense of child prostitution.

It is expected that they will be arraigned in Magistrate's Court and most likely remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
