Police Reveal More About 18 Year Old’s Murder
posted (March 7, 2019)
A little more is known tonight about the gruesome murder of pregnant 18 year-old, Joan Gabourel, the Valley of Peace villager, whose nude body was found mutilated last weekend.

She left her home on last week Tuesday evening, and she was supposed to attend a function and then spend the night a friend's house. That was the last time she was seen alive; 2 days later, a search party found her body near a cane field not far from a property which belongs to a relative.

But, no arrests have been made, and so, at today's police press briefing, the cops were asked about a few details about the murder that have emerged:

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"In reference to death of Joan Gabourel, the investigation is still ongoing. From those persons who were detained, 1 person was charged for cultivation of cannabis. He has been granted bail, and the police investigation continues. That area is still being treated as a crime scene. Officers are still on the ground today, trying to further evidence. So far, certain other evidence were found. Since we last met, I believe the bicycle amongst other items."

Reporter
"Sir, we have received reports that among these items that police recovered were bloodstained clothing. Are you able to confirm?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yes, and those, I believe, will be sent to the lab sometime later this week."

Reporter
"Has the investigation progressed any further beyond just picking up these items and charging one person you had detained for marijuana cultivation?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yes, we are seeking one other suspect in in relation to this investigation."

Reporter
"Do you all believe that you may be close to an arrest, or is that way far off?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Well, that is dependent on the investigation."

Reporter
"I believe you had confirmed that there was a person who was stalking Miss Gabourel. And what we have since learnt is that that person moved from Valley of Peace is now in Northern Belize. Is he being questioned in connection with her murder?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yes, we are trying to locate that person as we speak."

Reporter
"Sir, did the post mortem ever confirmed if she was pregnant? I know her relatives-"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yeah, I said I would not have gone to the details of that?"

Reporter
"Sir, in the case of when someone is killed like that, and she's pregnant, how does that work? If you find someone who is guilty of the crime."

Reporter
"Is the unborn life a factor in the charges?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yes, [it is] usually dependent on the development of the unborn."

As you heard, the blood-stained clothing will be sent for testing to confirm if they belong to Gabourel. Her bicycle was found a short distance away from her body.
