The Post-Accident Death Of Octogenarian
posted (March 7, 2019)
The press also asked police for an update about the traffic accident in which 86 year-old Gudelia Estevez was knocked down.

As we told you, about 2 weeks ago, Estevez was walking her 8 year-old grandson to school at St. Ignatius. While they were crossing the intersection of Amara Avenue and Dean Street, she was hit by a pickup truck driven by Martin Reyes.

She passed away yesterday morning at her Ebony Street home, and so, we asked police today if that means that the driver may be facing a more serious charge. Here's how they answered that:

Insp. Wilfredo Ferufino - CIB
"Miss Estevez passed away yesterday, and we know that the driver had been served with a notice of intended prosecution on the day of the incident. The investigation is ongoing. Now that Miss Estevez has passed away, the investigation has taken another turn. What the investigator briefed me is that now, they will be awaiting the results of the post-mortem, and they will forward the file to the DPP for her to make her conclusion on what charges to take."

Reporter
"So, do you all believe that you will be levying charges against the driver?"

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino
"Yes, initially, there would have been charges, however, there may be additional charges now, depending on the outcome the post-portem and whatever the DPP directs."

When Estevez was released from the hospital, the doctors were very optimistic about her prognosis. Her injury at the time was classified as wounding. It is not yet known what caused her sudden death.
