posted (March 12, 2019)
A father of 3 was killed in an accident on Sunday evening. 38 year old John Bennett was heading to his Belize City home on a motorbike when he collided into an oncoming vehicle. Bennett was flung from his bike and died on the spot.

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
John Bennett would have been among these men, hanging out at his Lakeview Street home this morning.

But, instead, his body was lying at the morgue. Bennett was killed in an accident between miles 7 and 8 on the George Price Highway. On Sunday evening around 5:00, Bennett left his cousin's mile 8 home on his motorcycle and was heading back to his house in the city when he collided into a gold Ford Explorer that was coming in the opposite direction. The police report states that

Anthony Grant was driving the Ford vehicle towards 8 miles when he saw Bennett on his motorcycle overtaking another vehicle. Grant says he tried to avoid hitting Bennett by swerving to the left but it was too late. Bennett slammed into the vehicle. He died from the impact.

Bennett's father says he left with his son on Sunday morning to church. He brought his son back home around 10:00 and left again. That was their final goodbye.

Wilson Bennett, Father
"The first thing he got up early Sunday morning, he put his son on his bicycle and he went to church. Came back and drop his son here. So he took his bike and he went to see his relatives. They had a little thing somewhere. He was alright. He went and that was the last time I saw him and after that we got just some messages that he was caught in an accident. My daughter went to the hospital and she came back and told me that he is gone. I couldn't believe it. He was the prized son. He would go to the market and buy stuff for his mother and then go to his work. He worked at Nazarene High School as a maintenance worker and some time he does security guard. he left 3 beautiful kids without a father. I feel it."

Grant was served with a notice of intended prosecution and a urine sample was taken from him. Bennett's post mortem was done today and the police took a blood sample to check if he was drinking. The results should be released to the family in about a week.
