Mother Shattered By Sudden Death
posted (March 12, 2019)
Tonight, a mother and father from Kelly Street in Belize City are in the throes of grief after their 6-week-old newborn died in her sleep.

The mother of Baby Ryhnaye Rowland put her to sleep on Sunday night just like she has always done. She expected that the baby would have stirred awake multiple times, as new-borns are known to do. In the early morning hours of Monday, the baby did just that on an hourly basis, until she just stopped.

At around 3 a.m., her mother woke up, and she immediately became distressed when the found that the baby was not breathing. She spoke with 7news today and she told us that her daughter was a victim of sudden infant death:

"Every hour, I check my baby because I know that she is a sleeping person. So, I got up at around 1 o'clock and I checked her. When I checked her, she was still breathing, everything.I got up again at 2 o'clock, and she was still fine, everything. I got up at like around 2:30 again, when I noticed that she was crying. I got up, I fed her, burped her, and I put her back to sleep on her. When I got up again at like 3 o'clock, I touched her and she was motionless, no kind of breathing, nothing All I could do was run inside, shout for my brother-in-law. I was wondering if it was only me feeling it. I wasn't feeling any heartbeat or anything like that. So, I gave her to him for him to check her, to see if he was not feeling anything either. When I took her outside, I shouted for my aunt."

"She checked her. She did CPR. She pumped her, everything. We called the ambulance arrived like 20 minutes after. We told them to get the pump and everything, but she did not come back to us any at all."

"Was she presenting any difficulties, any problems before that night?"

Simbiat Garnett
"No, She didn't cry anything. She was normal."

Reporter
"No complications at birth, nothing..."

Simbiat Garnett
"No, the only thing that happened was that the chord was around her neck when she was first born only that."

Reporter
"And the doctors didn't say that there could be any complications, nothing."

Simbiat Garnett
"No, they just said that she was a healthy baby. I had her on the 22nd, and on the 23, I was already home."

"This as my last baby. I have 2. I have another baby girl, but… I showed two of them the same love. If I could show it to the older 1, I must could show the last 1 the same thing."

"It just hurts. To God, it hurts badly. Because I know that my baby is not in an abusive home. She did not get any kind of hurt, nothing. And it just happens suddenly like this. I don't understand it."

A post-mortem is scheduled so that the family and the cops can confirm her exact cause of death. The parents told us that they are trying to remain strong for their surviving daughter who is only a few years old.
