Cops Say Courier Cocaine Charge Will Stand
posted (March 12, 2019)
On Friday we told you about the 6 and a half pounds of cocaine that police intercepted at the Ranchito Municipal Airstrip. It had arrived there in a knapsack by air cargo and police arrested 59 year-old Henry Menzies, and 38 year-old Melvin Cal, a cargo agent for the local airline.

On Friday, Menzies's employer and his family put out a statement saying he was just working as a courier and had nothing to do with the illicit cargo in the package. They accused the police of an incompetent investigation. Today, police said they know what they were doing.

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Those persons charged are one, Henry Menzies, 59 years old and one, Melvin Cal, 38 years old."

Reporter
"The family of Henry Menzies has put up a family statement saying that in fact it is a negligent investigation because Mr. Menzies was simply a courier who was hired-as he has done many times-to pick up a package at the airstrip and make a deliver. That he is blameless; his job is to pick up things."

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Yeah, but the police investigation as they were on operation has indicated differently hence the reason why both persons have been charged."

Reporter
"So it is not as the family alleges, just an act of...?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Well I am saying that the investigation has shown what it is. That's the reason why both persons were arrested."

Menzies family says they are confident they will be vindicated in court.
