Security Guard Shot in Foiled Burglary
posted (March 13, 2019)
A security guard at Prosser Fertilizer's headquarters was shot last night. Fortunately, he was not seriously injured - but it was part of an orchestrated robbery attempt by a number of men. They cut through the fence at Prosser's mile 8 facility. Veteran employee Wilmot Simmons told us more:...

Wilmot Simmons, Marketing and Sales - Prosser
"We believe it was sometime between 2:30 - 3:00, when the security booth with the security officer inside the booth who was on guard at the time, fully awake, he was sneaked up by about 4,5,6 - we don't even know exactly, but a bunch of robbers - hoodlums that came, we are not sue if just to assault the security officer. They tried to kill him. They sneaked up on him and shot him twice through the windows of the security booth, trying to kill him. He was shot in the buttocks and the leg. He was sitting down. He manages to get up and grab his weapon and he shot back at the intruders, the so called robbers. We don't know if he really shot any one of them or he just scared them, but he shot at them and he screamed accordingly and they bolted and ran. He manages to come out limping and couldn't see them, because they had ran off already. Others on the compound, because there is a bunch of people who stays here at night woke up and came to the assistance of the security officer which they were then told that he was assaulted, he was bleeding like crazy and they tried to assist him. They searched around the premises. The guys escaped through the fence. They had 3 different escape routes that they had cut through our fence. So they were prepared to run, obviously. They escaped and the security officer was then taken to KHMH about 3:30 this morning. He is in stable condition and we are all happy about that and we are back to normal here at Prosser. So security is tight here. Last night incident was something isolated, but definitely plan and strategized over a period of time, because the security they do walk around, they are armed and as I said we have guard dogs here about 8 of them. How the thieves got around those dogs is still something we questioned. But we are satisfied with the security. We don't expect anything to happen like that. We didn't expect that to happen, but we will take some extra precaution. Again, this is a formulating manufacturing plant. This is an operation where we don't deal in cash as such, so either the thieves were misinformed, they didn't do their homework right. The only thing to steal here would be some heavy bags of fertilizer and some dangerous chemicals."

No arrests have been made and police do not have suspects. Prosser's depot in Belmopan has also been targeted - also without success - in recent months.
