Legislation To Make Sure No Land Grab
posted (March 13, 2019)
And to drive that point home, Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber says he will take a bill to the house that outlines the specific use of the land in that area so there is no doubt, confusion, or concerns with 'land grabbing' moving forward.

But one sure use for the land is for the construction of a government complex. Faber told us more about the contract for this project.

Hon. Patrick Faber- Deputy Prime Minister
"One of the things that is already planned and we are hoping to sign that into effect as early as Friday morning just before we go to the house and the Prime Minister presents the budget for the fiscal year 2019 2020, we will sign a contract for the construction of a government complex; one of two that we hope to build there. This first complex is of course being funded by the government of Belize and it will house many of our government offices that we now pay rent for those premises and some of the premises as well that have been dilapidated. One government office that really pops out at me that I am sure will be there is the Immigration Income Tax, what is housed there at Mahogany Street, the Charles Bartley Hyde Building. So, we are hoping that that can move very quickly and we can start the ball rolling with that building."

There are also plans to build a second government building in the area.
