CITCO Rebrands
posted (March 15, 2019)

If you’ve passed by the Downtown Commercial Center recently, you would have noticed that the renovation works on it are moving apace, and it is expected that the Belize City Council will be able to move in and utilize the new building in a few weeks.

And to match the new color scheme of the Commercial Center, the Council is engaging in a rebranding effort. They want to remove the PUDP party colors out of the image of the council. The City Administrator granted an interview to the press and she discussed the Commercial Center, and this rebranding at City Hall:

Stephanie Lindo-Garbutt - City Administrator, Belize City Council
"Today the Belize City mayor had the pleasure of hosting the mayor's association meeting and at the conclusion of that we thought it would be a great opportunity for the mayor to invite his colleagues over to what will be the new city hall and that's what we did here today. In addition to given them a tour of the building, we also did a soft launch of the new brand for the council."

"We made some rectifications to the design to accommodate additional staff for the building. We've moved the city engineer along with the legal advisor over to this building - you know the city engineer is usually at the works department and the legal advisor was with the court, so that's what the additional works are, those will be completed by the end of the month. The elevator shaft, as you know, under the current loan for this facility did not include a furniture package or an elevator or a backup generator for the building. So as soon as we are able to access funding for those things, those will be installed. We anticipate getting the keysfor the building somewhere at the end of March or early April and thereafter 4 to 6 weeks we can fully move in."

"Stemming from the color scheme for the new city hall, the mayor and his council believed that it's a genuine step towards really modernizing the city and you noticed it's not branded in any particular political party color and we thought that would be exceptional to spread throughout the council because running the city and managing the city certainly exceeds any political party lines. So thought universal colors that speak to the entire length and breathe of who we are is what would be best for our new brand. You notice the colors they are light and fresh, it gives an airy feeling. Every organization has a flag and we think that in order to fully complete the brand foe the council, a flag has to match what you're doing. So we have launched a contest open to all residence of Belize City for them to come up with a flag design that speaks to the vision and the mission and branding concept for this council and the prize is 1,000 dollars."

As you heard, the council is inviting design entries from Belize City Residents on how the Council’s new flag should look. Whoever enters the winning design will get a $1,000 cash prize.
