Senior Citizen Killed In Traffic Accident

A 63 year old father of 3 was run over and killed last night. The victim is Pablo Hernandez. Hernandez was riding to his Forest Drive home when the driver of this Honda CR-V hit him and drove off, leaving Hernandez for dead at the entrance of Caribbean Chicken. We spoke to an employee of the establishment as well as Hernandez’s cousin about this hit and run.

"Well basically what my boss says that he heard a slam on the roadside and he never think it was something like an accident as someone getting hit but he says after a while he saw the police coming around by the entrance and they were surprised to know it was a fatal accident, that someone loss his life and that is basically it, so he said he heard the slam, saw the vehicle driving off hard and that was it."

Melqui Fernandez - Cousin
"Actually they called me about a hit and run accident and according to them it was Pablo Hernadez who lives in the area where I have a welding shop so I know him very well that is how I got to know from the call and I went to the scene and that is where I saw him."

Courtney Weatherburne
"So Mr. Hernandez was coming home, was he on a bike? What you understand happen?"

Melqui Fernandez
"He was on his bike going home for sure from what I saw, he was taking home some food."

Courtney Weatherburne
"So is it that he probably stopped at the Mall or grocery store to buy some groceries?"

Melqui Fernandez
"I would say he went to the Mall and buy and he was going home when he got hit."

Courtney Weatherburne
"What you think caused it? The man didn’t see Mr. Hernandez on the side of the road on his bike ? What you think caused the accident?"

Melqui Fernandez
"Well there is a light there actually right in front of where the accident happen so like I said I would not really know exactly what happened, it could be that he was drunk or he was on his phone there are so many things I do not know. It is very sad for the family and I would assume for his personal family when it comes to his wife and sons because he was the only income they had so right now we have trying to see how we can help the family that is the main purpose right now."

"It would be very good if the drivers take good care, there is a lot of people walking on the street especially at evening time exercising or something so it is a big responsibility for drivers to be careful on the entrance here."

Fernandez says he knows the driver of the Honda and that he has expressed remorse for not rendering aid.

Hernandez leaves behind 3 kids, the youngest is 3 years old. All of Hernandez’s family lives in Melchor and they will send for him to be buried there.
