2 weeks ago, we told you about the frightening home invasion in Ladyville which left 35 year-old Jeffrey Eligio, injured with a gunshot to the stomach. Masked gunmen barged into his home, shot him, and they then threatened his common-law wife, and 3 of their children.

It was an unexplained incident, and his common-law wife told us then that they don’t know why he was targeted specifically.

Well, on last Thursday night, the Eligio Family came under fire from gunmen, and this time, Eligio’s 70 year-old mother, was the one got injured. 

Margaret Eligio was inside her bedroom, and her daughter and her grandchildren were also at home. They suddenly heard the sound of gunshots being fired outside their wooden home, and after the dangerous commotion was over, everyone realized that Margaret Eligio had been shot in the right shoulder. 

Police told us today that they suspect that the shooters were looking for Jeffrey Eligio, who was released from hospital earlier that day:

"On Thursday night just after 10 I believe, Ms. Margaret Eligio, 70 years was at her address in Ladyville when she was along with other family members when several shots were heard. As a result they took her inside of the house, thereafter she found that she had been injured. She was brought to the hospital with a gunshot injury to the right upper shoulder where she is still presently admitted in a stable condition. All we know is that she was inside of her residence along with other family members when it was more than one person that went and fired several shots at the residence."

"Sir is she related anyway at all to Mr. Jeffrey Eligio?"

"She is the mother of Jeffrey Eligio. He was just discharged that morning from the hospital."

Daniel Ortiz
"Sir it seems as though the Eligio family is under some sort of threat or fire. Are you able to say, have they given you any kind of indication which enemies they may have?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"There are several theories that we are following up but we have approached the family to ask the to give us information in regards to what might be causing the shooting but we have not received much information from them."

"So they are not cooperating?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"They are cooperating but just to a certain extent."

"Sir so you don't know who exactly was the target of that (shooting)?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"We suspect that they were looking for Jeffery Eligio; however at the time of that shooting, he was not at the residence."

"We noticed having visited the area recently that you all have set up a police presence in that location. Is it to hopefully provide security to that area as to the family?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Yes it is and not only to them, if you recall that is the area were several shootings have happened during the past."

We went to the family yard today, but the Eligio family members told us that they were not granting any comments about Margaret Eligio’s shooting.  We note that another Eligio, a relative of this family was killed in Ladyville in 2006.
