posted (March 19, 2019)

Two weeks ago, the Minister of National Security revealed that Guatemalan civilians had fired on the BDF when they were destroying a marjuana field in the Toledo District.  And tonight, there is another sign is Guatemalans pushing into that area.

Last week Wednesday, a BDF Sergeant was part was leading an operation in the Machaquilha Area of Toledo.  They stopped and searched 43 year old Guatemalan Hector Rene Lopez, who is from Poptun.

They found hime with a 16 gauge shotgun, and seven shotgun cartridges. He had no license, and was handed over to Punta Gorda Police.

He was arrested and charged for (1) count of kept firearm without a gun license and (2) counts of kept ammunition without a gun license. He appeared in court yesterday and pled guilty. He was sentenced for 1 year for each count to run concurrently. He was also fined one thousand dollars for illegal entry to be paid forthwith, or in default serve 1-month in prison.

Usually, such arrests are not uncommon in the Chiquibul, but it is the first we are reporting like this in Toledo.
