Police Association Splinters
posted (March 20, 2019)

And back now to the police association - as you heard just now they are getting ready to go back to court tomorrow.

But while they prepare to go to court tomorrow, it does not do so with a united front.  A quite remarkable press release was sent today from three dissenting members of the executive.  They are the Secretary, Corporal Jermaine Hyde, the treasurer Corporal Jane Usher and another board member PC Holman Katenegie.  Their release says they denounce and disassociate themselves from the claim that the association is taking to court.  They also call on Chairman Corporal Eldon Arzu to remove the police association as a claimant.  They say he was not authorized to use the name of the association.  They say the matter has never been tabled at the board.  They say his actions are illegal.  They say that at that last meeting, Arzu had undertaken to produce the association’s true financial statements but he and other members of the board did not attend nay other meeting.

And that’s not the end of it!

They add that there has been unscrupulous practices and total disregard for the association rules, good administration and the rule of law.  They say that 65 thousand dollars in dues in interest for 2018 went to the association and no financial report has been made.

Documents we have seen show a mere fifteen thousand dollars in the bank account and many expenses relating to a vehicle, which is not listed among the association’s assets.  There is also a very small sum paid out in bereavement expenses.

We’ll have more coverage of this very thick controversy tomorrow when the claim goes to the Supreme Court for a hearing
