SMART Solutions For Students
posted (March 21, 2019)

For the past few months, Speednet parent company for “Smart,â€￾ has been designing outreach initiatives to make schoolchildren more excited about education.

My alma mater, St. Luke Methodist School in the Lake Independence area of Belize City has recently received a few prize donations from Smart, and today, the company made one more in the form of 5 computers for the school’s computer lab. They’re trying to modernize it, so that the students of St. Luke will enjoy the benefits of technology as a tool for learning.

We spoke with the Public Relations Officer, and the Principal about the donation:

Adelaide Sabido - PR/Branding, Smart
"For some time, we have been in partnership with St. Luke Primary School, and we have always had education as the fore-point of our initiatives at Smart. And in the past year, we have assisted the school with their sports initiatives. We have also explored the possibilities of advancing their computer labs. There is a need for computers and technology in not just Saint Luke’s, in most primary schools in Belize. And we are trying to implement a strategy where we look at these schools, and try to assist as best as possible. And today, we’re here to hand over 5 computers that will be in the computer lab, accompanied by Smarts Broadband service, as well as the continued partnership we have with the school."

Pamela Bodden - Principal, St. Luke Methodist School
"We have a laboratory, but I guess partly only for the name. We don’t have the amount of computers that we needed. And so, when Smart called to express that they would like to make this donation, Think that that made my day. It’s only 5, but it’s 5 more than what we had before. And so, we’re on our way to equipping our lab with the computers that the children will be using. And of course, in this kind of education, the children would be the main beneficiaries."

Adelaide Sabido
"The value of the donation with the computers alone is roughly about $7,000 to $8,000, and we are exploring to fully equip the lab, as months pass by, you can expect to hear more from us in terms of sponsorship to information technology at St. Luke."

Smart has committed to providing more computers for the school’s computer lab in the next few months.
