Fires in Heights
posted (March 21, 2019)

There were two minor fires in Mahogany Heights last night. Fortunately no one was hurt. Police say the fires are unrelated. Here is more.

ASP Alejandro Cowo - OC CIB, Belize District
"Last night at about 7 pm police responded to a house fire at mahogany heights where they visited the residence of Michelley Welch, 36 years of that same address where a neighbor reported that he was passing around there going to his house when he observed smoke coming out of the house. As a result, he managed to broke into the house and extinguish the fire with the assistance of other neighbours. At the time, the house was unoccupied and Ms. Michelley was not present. It was minor damages to the inside of the house."

"Sir was it a wooden house, concrete house?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"It's a concrete house. Just after that police responded to another fire in the same village, Mahogany Heights where this time the residence of Mr. Shane Simone-Trapp 33 years of that same village was found to have fire damages to one of the rooms and to the front door, the entrance to the building. What police so far has gathered is that the house is unoccupied and that the owner of the house moved from there about 2 weeks ago since he suffered gunshot injuries, he moved out from the area. Now that somebody went and attempted to light the house on fire but fortunately it was only small damages that was done to the inside of the house."

Reporter
"Sir you believe the first and the second incident, both of them were arson?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"We suspect that one of them is arson and the other one we are looking into it."

Reporter
"Sir is there any relation between the occupants? No relation?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"No relation, two separate incidents."
