And, a major cycling race will also be held this weekend.  It’s the Belmopan Classic, which used the be the Ninth of March Classic until the Ruta Maya took that race day away.  Cycling promoter Kwame Scott says it’s an important warm up for the Cross Country classic:..

Over the past few weeks, you’ve probably noticed the changes in the channel lineup from your cable provider.  Popular channels such  as Showtime, Encore and the Movie Channel have been removed from the lineup. That’s because the cable industry is coming around to a new era of copryright compliance.  Basically, they’ve been forced to remove these channels, because both the operators and the state will suffer lawsuits and trade penalties if pirated premium channels continue to appear in your cable lineup.  So, the cable landscape has changed significantly, even as those same copyright arrangements have forced your cable bill to go up.

And, while cable is cleaning up its act, and paying the price to do so - that has given rise to a new breed of unregulated television service providers who use the internet to offer hundreds, even thousands of channels - all pirated, and all cheaper than cable.  

A buffet of service providers have sprung up - and that - along with higher monthly charges have caused cable subscribers to switch to these new, cheaper services - even if they operate in a regulatory grey area. The cable operators - who for decades  freely violated copyright laws - and have invested millions in now becoming copyright compliant are now asking for government to step in and regulate this new breed of IP based television service providers.  

There are also discussions to see how the server sites for these new services can be blocked.  It is a developing story with significant financial and international implications.
