Ran Over Man Crossing Road
posted (March 25, 2019)
There was another fatal in the south, this one on the Hummingbird Highway. It happened on Friday night near mile 25. The victim is Belize City resident 26 year old Carlos Larios. The circumstances are similar to the Southern Highway fatal in that it happened right in front of a relative's house and family members responded quickly. But again, in this case, Larios was killed immediately due to the impact. We spoke to his cousin off camera.

Voice of: Cousin
"My cousin Carlos Larois was coming off the 7:30 James Bus. He was coming to visit us and while crossing the main highway a vehicle just came about 80-90 miles per hour and just took him away."

Reporter
"The vehicle hit him and he was flung?"

Voice of: Cousin
"When the vehicle hit him, he flew high and then he landed on his face. That was the time when we ran to do CPR, but it was already too late."

Reporter
"So you saw everything? You were waiting for him outside for him."

Voice of: Cousin
"Yes ma'am."

Reporter
"He usually comes to visit you guys up here?"

Voice of: Cousin
"Yes, like every 2 weeks. So were already waiting for him on the 7:30 bus."

Reporter
"Based on your observation, how come the vehicle hit him? The drover didnt see him crossing the road?"

Voice of: Cousin
"I guess he didn't see him crossing the road. The driver was on high speed. This is a highway under construction and there is a big sign before reaching here "Highway under construction." An accident can be prevented; drivers should be cautious when they are on this highway."

Reporter
"When he was crossing, did he looked both ways?"

Voice of: Cousin
"Yes ma'am. Actually he was already right over by the sign. He was already on his side of the road."

"He was a calm, friendly person. everybody knew him by Carlos or Tony. It's difficult to lose someone, especially me who saw everything. This is something like a life lesson to me and its difficult for the family to cope with it. when he got off the bus, he was actually singing, that was what I heard when the bus stops, because he was singing. Everything he had in his hands flew exactly in our yard."

Larios didn't have any kids.
