Motorbike Rider Died In Head On Collision Close To Home
posted (March 25, 2019)
And from those fatal accidents in Southern Belize, we turn now to 2 separate motorcycle accidents in the Belize District which were both fatal.

The first one happened on Saturday night, sometime after 6:00.

28 year-old Vladimir Aguilar, a resident of Scotland Halfmoon Village in the Belize River Valley Area, was riding his motorcycle from Burrell Boom, and he was heading to his family's house near the village bridge.

But, he didn't make it, because he collided head-on into a pick-up truck heading in the opposite direction. The force of the impact flung Auguilar's body off to the side of the road. He suffered serious head and body injuries, and died on the scene.

His brother told us that he had gone to see a mechanic earlier that evening:

Nelson Aguilar - Brother of the Deceased
"My friend called me to tell me that he heard a big bang, and he thought that it was my brother because my brother passed on the cycle."

"So, I just start the four-wheeler, and I went to go check. When I reached there, I saw that it was my brother. I just asked if they already called the ambulance or a police. They said yes. All I could do was to try move the grass from his face. And, the man who knocked him, said he was trying to overtake a next vehicle."

Reporter
"Is he - it's tough to have to ask, but he is the type of person who rides the motorcycle recklessly? Or is he a careful driver?"

Nelson Aguilar
"No, he's a careful driver. He never speeds, nothing, always good, always."

Reporter
"Where was he heading to or coming from?"

Nelson Aguilar
"I think he had a cycle tank problem; it was leaking. He bought a new cycle tank, so he went to the mechanic - I think in Burrell Boom - to fix the tank, and he was coming home. And the dark caught him. So, I don't know, I guess he was coming here to park the cycle."

"He is a friendly guy, very quiet. He works well because he also works with me."

Reporter
"What do you guys do together for employment?"

Nelson Aguilar
"I do landscaping. He does makes cabinets and all that stuff. I am the one who maintains the yard and stuff."

His family tells us that he leaves behind a young son.
