Holy Angels’ Cruse: Drowning in Bat Droppings
posted (March 25, 2019)
Teachers, parents and students from Holy Angels RC School in Pomona Village on the Hummingbird Highway staged a protest on their school compound today.

They have endured years of working and studying in unsanitary and hazardous classrooms. There are a list of problems from rat bat infestation to broken floor boards. The school body is pleading for help and Courtney Weatherburne was there to capture their march. Here's that story.

There are 350 students in total at the school. To clarify, classes continue no matter how many students show up. Teachers still teach even if it's only 4 or 10 students in the classroom. It is the parents who have decided to keep their kids home for obvious safety and health reasons. We also spoke to two students about their experience.

Jenny Vasquez, Standard 5 Student
"It is bad because, like how I am in standard 5 now I don't like that class, because I can't focus with my work, because it is hit and the 2 class are joined and the rat bat faeces always drop and we have to spend our money to buy silicones and stuff like that and when it's time to eat it falls in our foods too. That's why I don't like that class."

Lebron Baizar, Standard 5 Student
"For the past year I was in standard 4 and they had a bigger hole in there then one of my friend fell in the hole and dislocated his knee."

Denise Palacio, Standard 2 teacher
"We really want the help. We cannot do it on our own. It's the management, the school and the ministry of education we are supposed to come together to make sure that it happens. We cannot do it by ourselves. We don't eve n have the ways and means to do it."

The school is pleading for assistance from anyone interested in helping. We spoke to the local manager Rodolfo Garcia and he directed us to the head of the catholic management and/or the Minister of Education for answers. He says the Catholic management has given the assistance they can. We will keep following this story.
